My research liquid isn’t fully suspended—is that normal?
Yes—this can be normal.
Many compounds are not inherently water-soluble, and we do not add suspending agents unless a compound is water-soluble to begin with. As a result, it’s common for material to settle at the bottom of the bottle after it sits.
What to do
- Bring to room temperature. (Research liquids should be stored at room temp; no refrigeration.)
- Shake well for 15–30 seconds or gently invert several times to re-disperse.
- If available, a brief vortex can help.
- If you still see visible settling, warm the sealed bottle gently in your hands (or a lukewarm water bath) and shake again.
Tips for accurate use
- Re-disperse before each use so your aliquot is representative.
- Use clean pipettes and avoid contamination; recap promptly.
- Some products may naturally re-settle after a period of time—this does not affect quality when properly re-dispersed.
