What is the shelf life of your research liquids unopened?
Rule of thumb: When stored at room temperature and out of direct sunlight, unopened research liquids are generally stable for up to 18 months.
Actual stability can vary by compound and formulation, so always follow the product label and/or COA if they specify different guidance.
Storage best practices (unopened)
- Keep at room temperature (≈20–25 °C / 68–77 °F).
- Do not refrigerate or freeze.
- Store away from heat and direct light; a cabinet or drawer is ideal.
- Keep bottles tightly capped and upright to limit vapor exchange.
- Avoid temperature swings (e.g., car trunks, windowsills, hot labs).
After opening
Once opened, usable life can decrease significantly:
- Minimize air exposure and re-cap promptly after dispensing.
- Use clean, dedicated pipettes to avoid contamination.
- Expect some compounds to re-settle; gently shake or invert before each use to re-disperse.
- If you notice odor/color changes, precipitation that won’t re-disperse, or performance drift, discontinue use.
If a label or COA provides specific storage or retest dates, follow those over this general guidance.
